In The Footsteps of John Paul II

Cracow is the only city in the world that chronicles almost the whole life of John Paul II. Here are the places that remember him as a student and worker, actor and poet, young priest and lecturer, bishop and finally ? a Head of The Catholic Church (October 16th, 1978).


Since Karol Wojtyla became Pope, he did not live in Cracow anymore. Even though, every time when he was visiting the city, he was welcomed with the open arms. In remembrance of his presence in Cracow, especially after his death (April 2nd, 2005), the honouring him by monuments, memorial stones and naming institutions after him.

Karol Wojtyla and John Paul II is, and always will be present in Cracow. Here are the places that bounded his life. To promote them to tourists, the city made a special map with the trails, called "In The Paths of John Paul II". Walking on these trails you can find sanctuaries, schools and colleges, as well as houses and public buildings that are relevant to his life as Karol Wojtyla and as John Paul II.

Polish regional railway company, initiated a special train line that connects Cracow and Pope's home town, Wadowice. This line, called The Pope Train, has a special meaning for the pilgrims and tourists that are interested in visiting places relevant to the life of Polish Pope.
